The Fastest-Selling Car In Early Fall 2026 Is An Electric Mid-Size SUV (And It's Not A Tesla)
When people think about electric vehicles, Tesla is likely one of the first names that likely comes to mind. However, a surprising contender is attracting buyers quickly in fall 2026. Subaru's electric mid-size SUV, the Trailseeker, is actually the fastest-selling new vehicle in America, according to an October 2026 report from CarEdge, which looks at new vehicle sales and market day supply. Out of all other new cars, the 2026-2027 Subaru Trailseeker had the lowest number of days necessary to sell out inventory, at an average price of $45,240, as of October 1, 2026. Not to mention this could intensify even further as consumers learn that new vehicle prices are likely to drop in fall 2026.
Interestingly, with just six days of market day supply on dealership lots across America, the Trailseeker only barely beats out the next fastest-selling vehicle — the 2025-2026 Chevrolet BrightDrop (Chevy's all-electric van) — by one day. Meanwhile, the third-fastest seller was the 2026 Toyota Camry, with a market day supply of 11 days. Despite the popularity, Tesla vehicles did not appear anywhere in the top 25 fastest sellers, which could be due to Tesla's reputation taking a hit in recent years.
The Subaru Trailseeker had just 183 listings nationwide for new vehicles as of October 30, 2026, per CarGurus. That said, according to sales data from Good Car Bad Car, around 1,000 or more of these vehicles sold every month in May, June, July, and August in 2026, so it's no wonder the vehicle's inventory is struggling to keep pace.
Price cuts and practicality may have boosted Trailseeker sales
Reasons for car sale trends are often subjective, and largely come down to driver preferences. Still, there are likely economic factors at play behind the Trailseeker's fast sales — similar to how once-fading sedan sales have picked up in 2026 as high inflation and gas prices make them more practical choices for many drivers. As an electric vehicle, gas prices aren't an issue for the Trailseeker, and as a mid-size SUV, it appeals to those who might want more room than a sedan can offer. Too add to the appeal, Subaru trimmed the Trailseeker's lease pricing in May 2026 by up to 21%, making it cheaper than both the Subaru Outback and Forester. And, for those buying instead of leasing, Subaru also slashed interest rates to 0% in April.
The Trailseeker is also a totally new vehicle from Subaru — with 2026 as its first sales year — so there aren't prior years of sales data to compare performance. However, the automaker has already announced that it will not be raising prices on the model in 2027, which could help fuel additional sales in 2027.
