The sun is shining, the temperatures are rising, and plenty of people are looking for fun ways to cool off. One of the increasingly popular ways to do so involves a kayak: an inflatable one. People are buying inflatables because of their convenience, portability, ease of storage, and relatively low cost. According to Business Research Insights, in 2024, the inflatable kayak market (worldwide) clocked in at $228 billion in U.S. dollars. By 2033, figures are anticipated to reach $310.74 billion. Inflatable kayaks, then, are big business. So, if someone wants to sell this type of watercraft on Amazon, demand for the product clearly exists.

But, what about pricing for individual boats? Inflatable kayaks come in a wide variety of price points that can often range from $200 to $2,000 when new. That said, some inflatable kayaks can cost significantly more. In July 2025, Amazon listed an Outdoor Kayak Scenic Play Boat 2-Person Canoe Inflatable Boat Rubber Boat for a whopping $18,698.82. Many kayaks are designed to fit one or two people although larger ones can handle three or even four. The length and width of a particular kayak can contribute to capacity numbers, and so can maximum weight limits, with capacity limits able to affect pricing.

Selling used inflatable kayaks on Amazon

Several reasons exist why selling used kayaks makes sense. First, in general, boats are things not to buy new. Boats of reasonable quality can retain their value for years and, all other issues being equal, someone can get more boat for the money when bought used. Plus, people who might not have chosen to buy a used kayak in the past may have changed their minds when materials used to craft kayaks (not necessarily inflatable ones but kayaks in general) became in short supply with this situation worsening during the COVID pandemic. To add to the scenario, this shortage happened during a time of increased demand as people wanted to enjoy safe outdoor activities. A shortage of new kayaks with increased demand naturally led to increased prices, making the idea of used ones more enticing. Plus, although tariff details on Chinese products continue to fluctuate in 2025, Paddling Magazine estimates ones on inflatable kayaks at 27.5%. Once again, this has many buyers' minds turning to used inflatables.

By putting a seller's thinking cap on, opportunity clearly exists. So, if there's an inflatable kayak or two in a storage closet or garage, or for sale at a rummage sale or thrift shop on the cheap, you can earn money by selling it on Amazon. As a point of context, in June 2025, one Amazon seller listed a used inflatable kayak in "very good condition" for $225.39: an Intex 68309EP Excursion Pro K2 Inflatable Kayak Set: Includes Deluxe 86in Kayak Paddles and High-Output Pump – SuperTough PVC – Adjustable Bucket Seat – 2-Person – 400lb Weight Capacity.

Expanding your Amazon store to earn more money

Plenty of items found in households (beyond the inflatable kayak tucked in the garage) can be successfully sold on Amazon. For example, baby car seats can earn sellers quite a bit of money (look carefully at safety requirements before listing one). Here's what else can earn you a ton of money online: selling compact washing machines

If someone is new to selling on this massive online platform, Amazon provides a beginner's guide with plenty of tips. The process starts with choosing whether it makes sense to be an individual seller (this category costs the seller 0.99 per sale) or a professional seller (this setup costs $39.99 monthly) and creating a Seller Central account. Note that sellers also must pay referral fees, which range from 8 to 45% of the sales price with 15% being a percentage commonly charged; at a minimum, the referral fee must be at least 30 cents per item. The guide also provides detailed instructions on how to list a product for sale, which categories come with restrictions (like the baby car seats do), how to price products for sale, how to fulfill orders, how to advertise your Amazon store, and more to help sellers succeed in their money-making quests.
