This Is Chevy's Least-Sold SUV In The US (It's Not The Trax Or The Traverse)

Add Money Digest on Google:

Chevrolet has some of the best-selling SUVs on the market today. For instance, Car and Driver ranked the Chevy Trax among the top 25 best-selling vehicles through the first half of 2026, with almost 110,000 units sold during that period. Alongside the Trax, the Traverse is another popular option. In fact, GM, which owns the Chevrolet brand, listed the Trax and Traverse as among its best-selling vehicles in Q3 2026, and both models rank among Chevrolet models that are perfect for a retiree. However, not every Chevrolet model has enjoyed the same success.

The Chevy Blazer EV ranks as the automaker's least-sold SUV in the U.S. from January through September 2026, selling just 4,427 units, according to GM's Q3 2026 data — extending its record from 2025. For context, the Blazer EV was Chevrolet's least-sold SUV in 2025, with GM selling just 22,637 units that year, per GM's Q4 2025 data. Even worse, the Blazer EV's 2026 full-year sales figure is on track to fall way short of 2025 sales total.

The 4,427 Blazer EV units sold in the first three quarters of 2026 represent only about 20% of the 22,637 units that GM sold in 2025. Even if Q4 2026 sales match Q2 2026 sales of 2,089 units — the best-selling quarter so far in 2026 for the Blazer EV — total sales would still only be about 6,500 units, a 71% decline from 2025. This would also be the largest year-over-year decline since GM first released the Blazer EV in the 2024 model year.

Blazer EV sales slumped as the federal tax credit ended

The slump in the EV market and, by extension, the Blazer EV largely stems from the elimination of the federal EV tax credit in September 2025. After the tax credit ended, GM sold just 1,812 Blazer EVs in Q4 2025, and only 1,077 in Q1 2026, according to GM. However, the overall EV market slump tells only part of the story of the Blazer EV's decline.

Notably, the Blazer EV is the more expensive of Chevy's two electric SUVs, even while buyers are wary of Chevrolet's expensive maintenance costs. The 2026 model had a starting manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $46,495, per Edmunds. This is well ahead of the 2026 Chevy Equinox EV, which had a base MSRP of $36,795 , and consumers noticed. GM sold 18,154 Equinox EV units from January through September 2026, compared with just 4,427 Blazer EV units.

Depreciation is also a consideration. The Blazer EV being both an electric vehicle and an SUV combines the two worst vehicle segments for five-year depreciation rates. According to iSeeCars, EVs in general lose 57% of their value over half a decade, mainly due to rapid technological advances, including longer battery life in newer models and improved software. With that in mind, per CarEdge, the Blazer EV loses $33,558 in value over five years, representing 55% of total ownership costs during this period.
