In its final 2022 model year, the base trim level UX 200 started at a $34,525 MSRP, which made it the least expensive new Lexus at the time. However, since Lexus discontinued the gasoline version of the UX 200 after 2022 — making newer models hybrid-only — retirees can likely find an even more affordable deal on a used model. In fact, iSeeCars ranked the 2022 UX 200 as the cheapest Lexus car of 2026, with Kelley Blue Book (KBB) estimating a 2026 fair purchase price of about $25,100 for a base trim level 2022 model.
What makes the Lexus UX 200 such a good buy for retirees
Apart from initial purchase price affordability, the Lexus UX 200 offers many of the advantages that SUVs offer to seniors — like a roomier cabin and trunk — without the expensive and fuel-thirsty bulk. At 177 inches long, it is approximately 15-16 inches shorter than the Lexus RX — another popular retiree-friendly Lexus. This smaller footprint can make things like parking and navigating easier. Kelley Blue Book also praised its comfortable front seats and excellent forward view, while an available hands-free power hatch can make loading the back more convenient.
The 2022 UX 200 also earned a five-star overall National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) rating and an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety IIHS Top Safety Pick designation, although the latter applied only with qualifying headlights. The standard safety package adds capabilities that can make driving more forgiving for senior retirees, like pre-collision assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assistance, lane centering, road-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Long-term spending is another strength, with Kelley Blue Book naming the 2022 UX its lowest cost to own subcompact luxury SUV — projecting five-year expenses to run $3,224 less than the segment average.
