This Is What It Really Costs To Rent Out Madison Square Garden
While many Americans may be looking for ways to save money on their weddings, TMZ reported in June 2026 that pop superstar Taylor Swift and three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce were planning to rent out Madison Square Garden (MSG) for their wedding on July 3. According to TMZ's sources, the famous couple had booked out "The World's Most Famous Arena" for three days at an estimated $1 million per night. It's worth noting that MSG Entertainment does not have a rental price listed publicly on its website, and it's possible that quotes for renting the arena depend on various factors.
However, this seven-figure benchmark seems to be the going rate to book out the entirety of the 19,500-seat indoor arena. A Reuters report on President Donald Trump's October 2024 rally at MSG projected that it can cost anywhere from $1 million to rent the place. Further supporting this claim, Campaign Legal Center filed a Federal Election Commission (FEC) complaint alleging that two committees collectively paid over $1 million to make the rally happen.
That said, Madison Square Garden also features smaller, more affordable rental spaces. A small private event for less than 250 people could happen in any one of the other five lounges: Delta Sky360° Club, Legends Room, Lexus Terrace, Club Verizon, and Chase Lounge. While there's also no official rate for these halls publicly available, Eventective estimates hosting an event at one of these spaces would command a budget of $1,838 to $2,475 per person.
Why is renting out Madison Square Garden so expensive?
At $1 million per night, Madison Square Garden is expensive — even for a 19,500-capacity arena. For context, according to a 2024 concert cost breakdown by Prism, major arenas usually cost between $50,000 and $150,000 per night — meaning MSG can easily cost 10 times more than what's considered a normal large arena rental price.
Those prices may reflect the Madison Square Garden legacy. As both the home of the New York Knicks and the host of countless legendary musicians, MSG is part of the reason New York ranked among the U.S. states with the biggest tourism booms in 2024. But what really sets MSG apart from other arenas is where it sits. Location is a major component in how arenas fix their pricing, and Madison Square Garden sits in the supremely expensive Penn District of Midtown Manhattan. CBRE put Midtown Manhattan office asking rents at $84.79 per square foot in Q1 2026, with retail corridors reaching $682 per square foot. For comparison, the national average price per square foot was $37.21 that same quarter.
Another indirect effect of the location is how it impacts salaries and the cost of contractors. Renting out MSG doesn't mean you get only the hall; it also comes with a whole suite of services including ushers, security, stagehands, cleaning crews, and technical operators. New York is already one of the states with the highest median income, and it's likely that the MSG staff's notorious production quality comes at a premium.
