Star Wars fans longing to buy the 10123 Cloud City Lego set when it came out in 2003 would have paid $99.99, which equates to roughly $180 in 2026. Although that might sound pricey for a toy to some people, Brick Economy reports the value of this set — which depicts several iconic locations from "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" — has seen an annual growth rate of an incredible 15.8%. In 2026, the Lego appraisal site places this retired set's worth at $15,881.20 in new or sealed condition. That may seem staggering, but as of June 2026, several of these sets in mint condition have sold on eBay for between $12,500 and $15,000. So, this projected value is clearly reasonable in the eyes of some buyers.

Much of this value growth occurred steadily over the course of the 2020s. Wargamer reports like-new sets in 2020 were selling for $790. Two years later, prices were above $3,000. Our own roundup of Lego sets worth a ton of money notes that Brick Economy was valuing these sets around $5,500 in 2024, though Wargamer reports some were pushing $10,000 even earlier than that.

The condition of the set plays an important role in its value: In June 2026, a Cloud City Lego set described as "unused" was listed on eBay for $9,983, while one described as in "near mint" condition was going for $11,700. Meanwhile, pre-owned sets with all of their original pieces have routinely sold for between $4,000 and $5,000.

The 10123 Cloud City Lego set is rare and collectible

Retired in 2005, this set contains the Cloud City landing platform, 698 bricks and — most importantly for valuation purposes — minifigures of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Lando Calrissian, and a Stormtrooper. Minifigures add value to many Lego sets, and many of the figurines included in the Cloud City package are either very rare or can only be found in this set, increasing its demand among collectors. For instance, it famously features a Boba Fett minifigure with a unique design unavailable in any other set. It's largely the combination of these minifigures and the fact that the 10123 Cloud City Lego set has long been retired that has informed this product's skyrocketing value.

People buy vintage toys for a variety of reasons, ranging from nostalgia to a desire to increase their net worth. According to a 2024 Circana survey referenced by USA Today, 43% of adults surveyed bought themselves a toy — either for fun or for collecting purposes — in the past year.

When collecting Legos, in general, collectors can benefit from both nostalgia and their investment potential. Many people decide to sell collectibles before retiring and then invest the profits to enjoy their golden years. If you collect with the intention of building wealth and then opt to sell them for a profit, note that the IRS does impose capital gains tax on money earned from these sales at a maximum rate of 28%.
