Taylor Swift's Security Costs Will Make You Pause
If pressed to name one of the biggest superstars on the planet, chances are the name Taylor Swift would be at the top of the list. Getting to that level of fame, however, comes at a cost, especially when there are privacy and security concerns on the line. That's why Swift hired a small army of close protection officers (CPOs) for security during her 2024 Eras Tour — each potentially averaging about $150,000 in annual earnings.
Per Glassdoor, the yearly salary range for a CPO is anywhere between $63,000 and $116,000, with the top 90 percentile making $152,648. This high earning salary is for long term CPOs, the kind that Swift had with her both on and off tour for most of 2024. Hello! Magazine estimated that, when it came to keeping Swift protected on the road, the singer hired around 83 CPOs — four of which allegedly remained by her side 24/7 — and another roughly 140 contracted for sites and venues connected to her concerts. The total bill for that kind of coverage? $30 million, or almost twice as much as the price of Swift's former mansion that hit the market in Cape Cod for $14.5 million earlier in 2025.
The price it takes to keep Taylor Swift safe on tour in Europe
Taylor Swift takes safety and security very seriously, especially when she is on tour. Just the cost to protect Swift's equipment while touring in Europe totaled over $15 million in insurance and freight shipping fee, according to math done by Swiftie @solongliz on X, so there was no way the superstar was going to skimp on hiring personal protection while on the road.
The U.S. Sun noted that during the European leg of the Eras Tour, Swift spent at least $30 million on security alone, including 20 CPOs for all the members of her team as they traveled across the continent for 51 shows in 2024. Each of these CPOs were paid at least $1,110 a day, which cost Swift $2 million alone in the first 100 days of the tour, not including expenses like meals and lodging — which was estimated to have added another $2 million into the protection detail budget.
The cost it takes to protect you and your family
Most of us are not world renowned superstars, and cannot afford the cost of Swift's VIP suite for NFL games, let alone have personal bodyguards with us at all times. Still, it's important for us and our loved ones to feel as safe as possible, while not going overboard in terms of what is fiscally sound for home protection. You can try to hide valuables around your house or install expensive security systems to monitor criminal activity, but 898,108 burglary cases were reported in 2023 alone, according to data from the FBI's Crime Data Explorer.
One way you can help make sure your possessions, and property, are safe is to make sure you are properly insured. MoneyGeek calculated that most homeowners insurance policies cost about $2,614 per year for $250,000 in dwelling coverage, with $125,000 in personal property coverage and $125,000 in liability protection. While you might not be able to prevent or stop a robbery in progress, you can be made whole again with sufficient coverage and an insurance policy that fits your needs as well as your budget.
