Trump's Dollar Bill Makeover Has Never Been Done Before

Donald Trump has not been shy when it comes to news headlines during his latest presidential term. From building a new 90,000 square-foot ballroom in the White House to putting his name on government programs, Trump's actions have drawn a lot of attention — and a lot of scrutiny. Some of Trump's moves, like renaming the Department of Defense, have been outrageously costly affairs as well, with some of these initiatives costing upwards of millions of dollars.

The dollar bill is now the latest target in the trend. Starting with newly printed $100 bills in June 2026, Trump's name will begin appearing on all newly printed banknotes. With brand power being one of the most reliable invisible intangible assets, it's no wonder that President Trump has long been known for his ability to market himself – and attach a strong brand to his name. In fact, this penchant for branding was one of the reasons The Apprentice paid Donald Trump as much as it did, a large chunk of which came from endorsement deals using Trump's name.

Now it seems that endorsement will be printed on money itself, with the Trump's signature now replacing that of the current Treasurer for the first time in the history of U.S. federal currency. While portraits of previous presidents appear on U.S. currency, this will be the first time that a sitting president's name will appear on the bills — as a part of the country's 250th anniversary celebrations.

Trump's decision will break a 165-year long tradition

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's signature will continue to accompany Trump's name on U.S. bills. However, for the first time since 1861, the Treasurer's name will not appear on the bills. Nonetheless, the current Treasurer of the United States, Brandon Beach, issued a statement in support of the move, stating, "As the 250th anniversary of our great nation approaches, American currency will continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people under President Trump's leadership." Beach then went on to say, "Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved."

In addition to seeing Trump's name on dollar bills, America will also see a commemorative 24-carat gold coin featuring President Trump — also a part of the country's 250th anniversary celebrations.
