Major Changes Are Coming To YouTube TV. Is It Still Worth The Price In 2026?

Many Americans aren't buying the once-popular subscription to cable television like they used to, as more and more people choose streaming services for their entertainment. For many, this means making the switch to options like YouTube TV. Whether you've had the service for a while or are considering signing up, you should know about the changes its set to undergo this year.

YouTube's CEO Neal Mohan has said that rolling out fully customizable multiview and more than 10 specialized YouTube TV plans are just some of the big changes coming to the streaming service in 2026. Users will also have access to unlimited DVR with no box rental fees, so everyone can watch their preferred programming when it suits them. What's more, up to six individual members will be able to use the same YouTube TV account at no additional cost, making it perfect for families or those who want to share the experience with others. But even with these changes on the way, is YouTube TV still worth the price in 2026?

When it first launched back in 2017, YouTube TV cost a reasonable $35 a month, but by early 2025, viewers were paying a whopping $83 a month to stream their favorite programs through this popular platform. While some new users can get the streaming service at a discount short-term through promotional offers, existing subscribers won't see a reduction in price for YouTube TV's main plan in 2026. That said, taking into account the $149 Verizon charges for its most comprehensive Fios TV package, savvy shoppers may find that YouTube TV is a cost-effective deal. Also, some of YouTube TV's new specialized plans are cheaper than its main package. Whether these are worth the money really depends on what you'd like to see from your streaming service.

New customizable plans coming to YouTube TV in 2026

As of February 2026, YouTube Official Blog has provided details on just four of the supposed 10 customizable plans users can choose from. The main plan is still set to run you $82.99 a month, with no change to that cost for the year (this might be one of the bills retirees should rethink immediately). But sports fans will have the option to choose the Sports Plan for just $64.99 a month. This package costs $18 less than the main plan, and it includes access to mainstream sports broadcasters and several major sports networks, including ESPN and FS1. Sports lovers who want to stay updated on current events can opt for the Sports + News Plan, which costs $71.99 a month. This plan lets users tune in to the same sports programming available with the Sports Plan and also watch national news networks like Fox, CNN, and CNBC.

The other two new YouTube TV plans we know about right now revolve around entertainment. For those who want to enjoy shows and movies, the Entertainment Plan is the ideal choice. This option includes channels ranging from Comedy Central and Paramount to the Food Network and HGTV for $54.99 a month. Families will appreciate the News + Entertainment + Family Plan, as it includes news and entertainment programming alongside family-friendly channels such as the Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon for $69.99 a month. New users can get a small discount for the first three months or a year when they sign up, depending on the plan, but budgeting for the higher price is wise, as it's what users will eventually pay for their preferred package.
