Consumer Reports Says These Dishwashers Are The Most Reliable In 2025
Dishwashers can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. But despite the upfront price, using a dishwasher is often cheaper than washing dishes by hand, especially if you avoid kitchen habits that can run up your power bill, like running the machine before it's full or operating it during peak hours.
But like elsewhere in life, true value varies from product to product. And you can't save money if your dishwasher periodically breaks down, or if you must wash the dishes again because the machine fails to clean them properly. Fortunately, Consumer Reports, a non-profit organization that tests and surveys customers on how well, or badly, products perform, came out with a report in November 2025 that listed the most reliable dishwasher brands and models. The report is based on data collected on 77,000 dishwashers from 27 brands as well as surveys of 66,000 people who bought their dishwashers over the past 10 years. The data aims to shed light on which brands and models held up the bet in their first five years of service.
What Consumer Reports found was that while expensive models mostly dominated the list, a lofty price tag doesn't guarantee reliability. In addition, all the models that made the list are certified by Energy Star, a public-private partnership run by the Environmental Protection Agency. Below are the top-performing models of the most reliable rated dishwashing brands analyzed by Consumer Reports.
Bosch Benchmark SHP9PCM5N earned a reliability score of 98
This 24-inch model dishwasher with a stainless-steel interior had Consumer Reports' highest reliability score (98 out of 100), highest owner satisfaction score (91 out of 100), and the highest overall rating (85 out of 100). Consumer Reports specifically complimented Bosch Benchmark's reliably in washing and drying dishes, and it also lauded the model for its superior energy efficiency, which can help you save money on your electric bill. In expert lab tests, Consumer Reports gave a perfect five-out-of-five score for the model's quiet operation and ease of use (a metric that included flexibility, loading options, and ease of operation). Drying, energy use, and wash performance scored four out of five. The machine comes with various other features that may prove convenient, such as Wi-Fi connectivity.
The only drawbacks per Consumer Reports is the SHP9PCM5N's manually cleaned filter and its high price range, which can start around $1,790 and go as high as almost $2,400. If that's outside your budget, Consumer Reports recommends as an alternative the Bosch 300 Series SHE43C75N, which can be acquired for roughly $800. But while Consumer Reports' reliability score for that model was 98 out of 100, its overall score was 76.
Miele G7196SCVISF tied for first place with a reliability score of 98
Another 24-inch stainless steel dishwasher with a high price ($2,199), the Miele G7196SCVISF tied with the Bosch Benchmark for a reliability score of 98 based on Consumer Reports lab tests. Its surveyed owners, though, were a bit less impressed, giving the G7196SCVISF an 89, the second highest customer satisfaction score. The overall score of the Miele G7196SCVISF was 79.
The Miele has plenty of features expected from a high-end washer, including Wi-Fi connectivity, a third rack, lots of flatware, and an automatic detergent dispenser system that takes the guesswork out of figuring out how much detergent is needed for a particular load. But while it's awesome at washing dishes, the G7196SCVISF's ability to dry them was ordinary, per Consumer Reports, hence why it earned a score of three out of five in that category. In contrast, Miele scored five out of five for energy efficiency and four out of five for noise and ease of use.
Thermador Star Sapphire DWHD661EFP has a reliability score of 94
Thermador and Bosch are owned by the same parent company, Robert Bosch GmbH. Still, Thermador remains a distinct brand. In Consumer Reports' survey, it didn't get as high a rating as Bosch, but it was still deemed among the most reliable dishwashers on the market. Considering that the Thermador Star Sapphire DWHD661EFP costs $2,499, that's probably a good thing.
According to Consumer Reports, the Thermador Star Sapphire model has the third-highest ranking in terms of reliability, scoring 94 out of 100; meanwhile, it only garners a score of 69 in owner satisfaction. Overall, the model Thermador DWHD661EFP received a score of 78.
Consumer Reports notes that the Thermador Star Sapphire has convenient features, such as adjustable tines that hold dishes, lots of flatware slots, a third rack, and a Wi-Fi connection that enables users to control cycles via a smartphone application. It also scored five out of five for ease of use and a four out of five for wash performance, ease of use, drying, energy use, and quietness. That said, the Thermador Star Sapphire doesn't have a delayed start feature.
Consumer Reports gave Midea MDT24P3CST a reliability score of 81
The most affordable model on this list — the Midea MDT24P3CST — can be acquired for between $400 and $450, and Consumer Reports gave it an overall rating of 75. In terms of reliability, Midea received a score of 81 and an owner satisfaction score of 59.
The Midea MDT24P3CST has a perfect five-out-of-five score in terms of energy efficiency and a near perfect score of four out of five for washing, ease of use, and drying. Among its unique features is the door that opens at the end of the cycle to enable better drying. Its third rack can be adjusted to three different heights. And it even has a dedicated bottle wash section that utilizes water sprays for efficient cleaning.
Where it doesn't do that well is in the noise category, where the Midea MDT24P3CST scores three out of five. But considering this machine is way more affordable than its more reliable peers, someone on a budget can probably tolerate a bit of sound.
