Ohio's Wealthiest Suburb In 2025 Is Known For A Top-Rated Theme Park

The location of one of the wealthiest suburbs in the United States may surprise you. Recently, many of the country's richest towns have largely been concentrated in California, Texas, and the Northeast. However, a study by GoBankingRates, pulling data from Zillow, AreaVibes, and the United States Census Bureau, listed Mason, Ohio, as one of the wealthiest suburbs in America. Located between Cincinnati and Dayton, the Ohio suburb has seen rapid growth in the past five years.

According to 2023 data from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey (ACS), the town's population sits at just over 35,000 residents. The suburb has long been known more for its King Island amusement park than as a location for rich Ohioans, but its steady growth since 2019 suggests more and more people are catching onto its many attractions.

Additionally, housing prices in the town have continued to go up, with the average home in Mason valued at $565,612, according to GoBankingRates. A major part of this is due to the economic makeup of the town, with a majority of residents working in management, sales, and administrative roles. This trend may be due in part to the town's proximity to major cities like Columbus and Cincinnati, where lucrative employment opportunities might be more abundant. Residents leverage this to the tune of an average household income of $161,798 a year, according to ACS data. These earnings pair well with a relatively moderate state income tax, and are only complemented by the lofty IRS tax refunds seen by some Americans in 2025.

Mason, Ohio, offers more than just a classic amusement park

King Island is a Midwest institution, running and operating in Mason since 1972. The park is expansive, covering 364 acres, and offers a multitude of activities for those visiting the greater Cincinnati area. The history of King Island is evident once you step onto the park and see one of its original wooden rides in operation. The park also has multiple water attractions and modern coasters, including the Invertigo, which has a full loop in it.

While King Island has long been a staple of the Mason community, it is not the sole thing driving interest in the suburb. The town has an incredibly low crime rate, sitting at 8.89, over twenty points lower than the national average, according to Nextdoor. Along with safety, Mason has a high concentration of golf courses, both private and public. Standing out among these courses is Grizzly Golf and Social Lodge. Designed and owned by former professional golfer Jack Nicklaus, it's home to multiple PGA tour events.

Mason has multiple villas that can fetch well over that million-dollar mark, but not all millionaires live in crazy mega mansions. The town has many homes priced in the $300,000 to $450,000 range, which align much better with the area's median household income.
