One Of The Least Reliable Cars Is Plagued With Quality Issues, According To Consumer Reports

When shopping for a new car, reliability is a top factor for most consumers. Most people in the market for a new vehicle are looking for something they can expect to last, especially with the high price tag found on most new cars today. Popular product review service Consumer Reports (CR) reviews dozens of vehicles every year, and one of the models it looked at in 2025 turned out to be surprisingly disappointing: the Genesis G70. It was unexpected to see any Genesis model on CR's 2025 list of unreliable vehicles, as the luxury brand has built a solid reputation since spinning off from Hyundai in 2015.

For those unfamiliar, the Genesis G70 is a luxury sport sedan with an upscale design. It's certainly not the most affordable luxury car on the market, though you'd never know it from its reputation. Consumer Reports gave the 2025 G70 just 29 points out of 100 for its predicted reliability rating, which it calculates using data from previous year models to predict how well current or future models will fare over time. Since the G70 launched in the United States market, Genesis has issued recalls for every 2019 through 2023 model year. Though they've become less frequent over time, it can take years for problems to become apparent and common enough to issue a recall, so newer G70s may not be out of the woods yet.

Quality and safety issues plaguing the Genesis G70

Although Genesis hasn't been one of the brands suffering big losses from some of the largest çar recalls in recent history, it's still crucial to be aware of the car's potential problems before you rush out to buy the latest model. One of the quality issues plaguing the G70 stems from the sedan's electrical system. In 2021, 2019 and 2020 G70s were recalled because of a faulty electrical system that put the vehicle at risk of catching on fire in the engine compartment. A few years later, an oil leak in the engine compartment that could also lead to a higher risk of fire was issued for 2019 through 2022 G70 year models.

Aside from the electrical and oil leak problems, the Genesis G70 is prone to fuel pump issues that can cause a loss of power. Losing power suddenly when you're on the road can be extremely dangerous and potentially cause an accident. That particular issue resulted in a recall for 2019 through 2023 G70 models, and while not every car will be affected by every recall, issues this frequent are definitely something to watch out for.

Meanwhile, CR highlighted that the G70 just isn't that comfortable to ride in, especially in the backseat, and that its braking and cargo storage both leave something to be desired. Some owners have also reported issues in which water can get into the headlights, building condensation and making driving at night more difficult and dangerous.
