8 Dollar Tree Items That Put Amazon Prices To Shame

We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

If you're locked into the habit of online shopping, it can be easy to forget just how many items are actually available in-store nearby. For example, consider items you might put in your Amazon cart without ever wondering whether you can find them at a local retailer like Dollar Tree for a cheaper price. It's true that Amazon now offers the option to buy products in brick-and-mortar stores, but most Americans will purchase from the brand through the app and website, enabling a purely digital experience. More importantly, there may be additional fees tacked onto the purchase that buyers never considered. For instance, depending on where you live, you may face additional sales taxes. You will likely also see shipping fees that drive up the final cost.

When you consider the price of everyday items like deodorant, socks, or makeup, it's relatively easy to buy them at a store like Dollar Tree for very low prices. While some items might be similarly priced on Amazon, the added fees can erase any potential bargain you thought you had. Not only that, but consider how much time you might have to wait to use your purchase if you order online instead of going directly to the store. If you're determined to save time and money while getting the most value for your spending, here are products you can buy at Dollar Tree that put their Amazon prices to shame.

Suave deodorant

Suave is a well-known brand in the health and beauty space, and its deodorants typically get priced very affordably. They're easy to replace if you happen to run out, or you can stock up for the future with bulk purchases. If you decide to buy Suave online through Amazon, you might tell yourself you're getting a bargain by buying Suave's antiperspirant deodorant for women on its website.  There is a range of Suave deodorants available. For instance, the two-pack of anti-staining deodorant sticks is priced at $9.99 before shipping fees or taxes. That means you're paying slightly less than $5 per stick of deodorant.

At first glance, Amazon's pricing seems like a good deal. However, Dollar Tree sells Suave deodorants for $1.25 each. There are options for men and women, and it is very easy to stock up due to the low cost of each product. In fact, you could buy close to eight sticks of deodorant at Dollar Tree for the equivalent of the two items purchased online at Amazon. What does work in Amazon's favor would be a greater range of choices; you could buy different size sticks of Suave deodorants and in different scents. This might make it seem worth it to go ahead and get this product through Amazon's website or app. However, if you're someone who is okay with the standard scent and are more concerned with savings, it just makes sense to get this item in store at Dollar Tree instead of making online purchases.

L.A. Colors pressed powder

American women spend a lot on beauty products, with the average annual budget ranging from $2,000 to $10,000. One in six women surveyed by Advanced Dermatology outright admitted to spending more on their beauty and wellness purchases than they could afford. For women who want to avoid exceeding their budget, it makes sense to pop into stores like Dollar Tree to find beauty and makeup items, as they're priced far lower than what you would find at local drug stores, Sephora, or on Amazon.

L.A. Colors is a popular, affordable makeup brand that women love to stock up on. When bought from Dollar Tree, the average cost of each item, whether it's eyeshadow or mascara, is about $1.25. Interestingly, Amazon also carries L.A. Colors products, including the brand's pressed powders, which were priced between $4 and $10. We found that Amazon priced L.A. Color's powders higher; in some cases, you might pay up to six times more for a pressed powder than what you can find at Dollar Tree.

If variety is the concern, you might say it makes sense to buy your L.A. Colors powders and other makeup through Amazon. But the pricing overall isn't going to be good value for money, not compared to what you'll ultimately save by going with Dollar Tree.

Alberto V05 shampoo

Alberto V05 is an enduring name in hair care products; you'll find these items on the shelves of retailers large and small, though the pricing will depend on where you shop. If you decide to buy the V05 shampoos through Amazon, you could pay between $4 and $7 per bottle. They're also sold on Amazon in packs of 3, 6, and 10, priced from $14 to $45. At first glance, these pricing options seem very affordable, but Dollar Tree deals put them to shame.

Fans of Alberto V05 shampoo can find these products at Dollar Tree for $1.25 each. There are a few scent options that coordinate with the equally affordable conditioners. Bought together, you could spend under $3 at Dollar Tree on shampoo and conditioner and still not spend half as much as you might on a bottle of V05 purchased on Amazon. For bargain hunters, this would seem like a no-brainer, with Dollar Tree's pricing being far more ideal. However, some shoppers could be dissuaded by fewer scent options and the noticeably small bottle sizes. Still, if you're talking prices and the potential to save long-term, Dollar Tree is going to be the better option for Alberto V05 shampoos and their other haircare products.

Bic Silky Touch disposable razors

Some might be puzzled by why some women go for disposable razors rather than investing in reusable products. Disposable razors are a popular choice due to convenience and affordability. If you're a woman who travels frequently or isn't committed to caring for a permanent electric razor, then the disposable option just makes sense. Bic Silky Touch disposable razors are among the most popular options currently available, reportedly earning over $200 million in annual sales.

For women who prefer disposable razors to save money, it might seem like you're getting good value on Amazon. For instance, you can buy a 3-count pack of BIC Silky Touch razors for $6.80. That makes each included razor worth about $2.27. Yet if you shop for Bic Silky Touch razors at Dollar Tree, you'll find 2-count packs on sale for $1.50; that means each razor is technically worth $0.75. Ultimately, you're paying far less per razor at Dollar Tree than you do when purchasing via Amazon. For women looking to buy disposable razors for less, it's hard to overlook the significant savings. If you want to buy more razors at once and don't mind paying additional shipping fees, Amazon could make sense. However, for the price and convenience, we think Dollar Tree is the better choice when buying Bic Silky Touch disposable razors.

Hot Wheels die cast toy cars

Even in the digital era, decades after they were first introduced to toy shelves, Hot Wheels continue to surprise by how well they sell. According to USA Today, these toy cars have only increased in popularity, with sales topping $1.2 billion in 2022 alone.

Whether you're a collector or want to purchase fun toys in preparation for the Christmas season, Hot Wheels might be an item to consider adding to your list. If you check Amazon for Hot Wheels die-cast toy cars, you'll find a wide range of choices, though the most affordable options are priced around $5. If you want to do better for pricing, then you'll find similar Hot Wheels toy cars at Dollar Tree stores. It's important to note that Dollar Tree sells individual vehicles; if you would prefer to buy a set of cars, you would need to shop elsewhere. Likewise, some cars won't be found at Dollar Tree as they're more valuable, and so command a higher price.

If you're serious about Hot Wheels cars as a collector or just want a more rare product, then you probably won't find what you're looking for at Dollar Tree. But if you're someone who wants to do budget-friendly toy shopping, this is an item you should consider, as Dollar Tree pricing puts Amazon's to shame.

Snugadoo socks

It would be fair to consider Snugadoo socks a very obscure type of clothing. Though available in a lot of fun colors or even as seasonal purchases, these socks aren't necessarily as widely known as those sold by Hanes or Fruit of the Loom. However, if you're someone who likes cozy, soft socks, you might be willing to give Snugadoo a try. However, if you look at both Amazon and Dollar Tree when deciding, you'll quickly notice a big difference in pricing.

On Amazon, we found pairs of Snugadoo socks priced $7.59 and $8.59; there was also an additional shipping fee of $3.99. In all, you might spend at least $12 on a single pair of socks. If you really like this brand or these types of socks, it might initially seem like good value for money. Dollar Tree also offers Snugadoo socks for $1.50 per pair. Not only are these adult soft socks easy to find in stores, but there are seasonal options available.

In the end, it might come down to personal preference, as you might see patterns that you prefer on Amazon, or decide to buy a similar type of sock from a competitor. For now, Dollar Tree only offers Snugadoo's brand of warm fuzzy socks. But as far as pricing does, you could buy at least four pairs of Snugadoo socks in-store at Dollar Tree and spend less than you would at Amazon, and that doesn't include money saved on the shipping fee.

Crayola white children's chalk

Kids of all ages know the Crayola brand. While many readily associate the name with crayons and colored pencils, Crayola also sells chalk. While many are used to the company providing more colorful options, you can also buy Crayola white chalk. Anti-dust options have also become increasingly popular as research shows that chalk dust can contribute to health issues.

For teachers and parents who want to give their children a creative outlet, many are turning to Crayola chalk. Of course, with rising prices, shoppers will want to stick to stores that provide the best prices.  Amazon is selling a 3-pack of Crayola 12-count white chalk boxes for $5.96. The page lists each box as worth $1.99. Ordinarily, this could be seen as a good deal.

This viewpoint changes when you look for Crayola white chalk in Dollar Tree. Right now, the dollar store retailer is offering an 18-count box for $1.25. Two boxes would cost $2.50 and give you the same number of chalk pieces as the Amazon 3-pack. Not only that, but you would be spending nearly two dollars less. If your class or household goes through a lot of chalk over the year, you might think you're getting more bang for your buck with the three-pack. However, it would be wiser to stock up at Dollar Tree, where you'll pay less for Crayola chalk while still getting the same amount.

Cooking Concepts Sink Strainers

If you are hoping to save money on kitchen items, then it makes sense to aim for a dollar store purchase. Dollar Tree is known to offer all sorts of kitchen items for very low prices. This includes sink strainers created by Cooking Concepts. This brand is very affordable, and you'll typically find it in every Dollar Tree store. But if you're someone who needs a sink strainer and is in the habit of shopping for kitchen tools on Amazon, you might think paying $9.30 for a pair of silicone sink strainers is a good deal and great value.

In actuality, this is a terrible deal, as you can buy a Cooking Concepts sink strainer at Dollar Tree for only $1.25. If you purchase a pair of sink strainers at Dollar Tree, you'd still spend about half as much, even with Amazon offering free shipping. Some would argue that there are better-quality options available, and if you want a very good, durable sink strainer, you could go with a different company. Still, if pricing your concern and savings the main goal, getting your Cooking Concepts sink strainer at Dollar Tree is going to represent money well spent.
