Old DVDs That Are Worth A Lot Of Money In 2025

Movies have changed a lot in the last few years and 2025 is no exception. Cinephiles have everything from IMAX movie theaters to streaming classic cinema at home to choose as options for how to consume their favorite medium of entertainment. Movies are also getting more expensive to watch: from the price of a ticket to the markup of snacks at theaters, it's not cheap to be a fan of film.

There is an upside to this, however, especially if you are a cinema lover who kept your old DVDs. Just like certain VHS tapes of classic films have gone up in value recently, Screencrush described that so too have specific DVDs and box sets gone up in what they are worth today, with the nostalgia market on for them only beginning to take interest and likely to grow.

Did you throw away all your old DVDs or are they sitting around your home somewhere? If you think you might have a box or a closet with a few of these discs lying around, time to blow off the dust and see if you can cash them in for some big bucks.

DVD movie box sets that are highly valued in 2025

Ingmar Bergman. Federico Fellini. François Truffaut. All are big names in cinema, but none of them were producing movies in the time of DVDs.

Now, however, a selection of their films has been placed together in the Essential Art House: 50 Years of Janus Films from The Criterion Collection, which contains 50 discs with classic art house and foreign cinema masterpieces. The official website for this collection currently lists it as out of print, formerly selling for $850, though NerdStash noted that in the last year an eBay auction for a mint-condition set of these DVDs went for $1,899.

Box sets tend to be where the big bucks are at in terms of what you can get for DVDs today. According to Express, in the United Kingdom, the limited edition castle box set of "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" goes for roughly £300 or $405 in USD, which is about the same price you can get for the "Blade Runner" ultimate collector's edition and "The Godfather" box set.

TV shows on DVD are also considered valuable

DVDs are not just limited to movies, but cover television as well. Before we started to question if streaming services Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV+ were worth the subscription price, viewers used to purchase whole seasons of their favorite shows on DVD for watching again and again at home. Now, some of those TV shows – particularly animated and childhood favorites — are selling for a lot more than what their owners paid for them back in the day.

eBay currently has the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Complete Series Shout Factory!" Steelbook Box Set available for $599.99, though Love Money pointed out that one set sold on the site in February, 2025 for nearly $1,191.82 in USD currency. Fans of the anime show "Dragon Ball Z" can buy the Dragon Box COMPLETE SET (Volumes 1-7) on eBay for as much as $9,000.

If you think you have any of these DVDs or some others that could fetch a pretty penny in your possession, it might be time to dig them out, evaluate their condition, and figure out what they are worth in 2025.
