Old DVDs That Are Worth A Lot Of Money In 2026

Movies have changed a lot in the last few years and 2026 is no exception. Cinephiles have everything from IMAX movie theaters to streaming classic cinema at home to choose as options for how to consume their favorite medium of entertainment. Movies are also getting more expensive to watch: from the price of a ticket to the markup on movie theater snacks, it's not cheap to be a fan of film.

There is an upside to this, however, especially if you are a cinema lover who might have kept your old DVDs. Just like certain VHS tapes of classic films have gone up in value recently so, too, have specific DVDs and box sets. From comedies to cult classic, you might be surprised by what DVDs are worth the most — especially when it comes to box sets. Plus, if you think you might have a box with a few classics lying around, it could be time to blow off the dust and see if you can cash them in for big bucks.

DVD movie box sets that are highly valued in 2026

Box sets tend to be where the big bucks are at in terms of what you can get for DVDs today. Ingmar Bergman. Federico Fellini. François Truffaut. All are big names in cinema, but none of them were producing movies in the time of DVDs. However, a selection of their films compiled together, like in the Essential Art House: 50 Years of Janus Films from The Criterion Collection, could be worth a lot. This set, which contains 50 discs of classic art house and foreign cinema masterpieces, formerly retailed for $850. However, NerdStash noted that an eBay auction for a mint-condition set of these DVDs sold for $1,899.

Meanwhile, according to Express, the limited edition castle box set of "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" can sell for roughly £300, or roughly $410, which is about the same price you can expect for the "Blade Runner" ultimate collector's edition, or "The Godfather" box set.

TV shows that are also valuable

Before we collectively started to question whether streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV+ were worth the subscription price, viewers used to purchase whole seasons of their favorite shows on DVD for watching again and again at home. Now, some of those TV shows -– particularly animated and childhood favorites — are selling for a lot more than what their owners paid for them back in the day.

An eBay listing currently has the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Complete Series Shout Factory!" Steelbook Box Set available for $769.99, though, per Love Money, one of these sets sold in February 2025 for over $1,100. Similarly, fans of "Dragon Ball Z" can find the Dragon Box COMPLETE SET (Volumes 1-7) on eBay for as much as $9,000.

If you think you have any of these DVDs or some others that could fetch a pretty penny in your possession, it might be time to dig them out, evaluate their condition, and figure out what they are worth in 2026.
